THE RAMAYANA FORUM

The Ramayana Forum is a site to exchange your ideas, insights, scholarly views, commentary and experiences of the Ramayana.  Our intention is to create a meeting place for appreciators of the Ramayana to explore their mind and heart on the impact and significance of the epic Ramayana for themselves and the world.

The Ramayana Forum will feature (bi-monthly) special articles and essays on the Ramayana and related topics.  We hope these articles will generate your commentary and review on the Ramayana Forum Bulletin Board.

The first featured article is:

"The World of Valmiki" --an essay by N. Raghunathan

Renowned Indian journalist N. Raghunathan's translation of the Valmiki Ramayana was used as the text for the Vedic Audio Knowledge audio production of the Ramayana.  As a tribute to his highly-acclaimed translation, we feature his insightful essay as the first article on the Ramayana Forum.

Mr. N. Raghunathan was a brilliant writer, a profound scholar in English and Sanskrit, and the doyen of Indian journalism. After  thirty years as Assistant Editor of The Hindu, the well-known national English daily of Madras, he retired as its Chief Editorial Executive in 1957. At the age when most individuals would have retired comfortably, Mr. Raghunathan undertook the monumental task of translating both Srimad Bhagavatam and Srimad Valmiki Ramayanam from Sanskrit into English. After a decade of work and well into his eighties, and with failing health, Mr. Raghunathan devotedly completed his translation of the Ramayana shortly before passing on at age 89.
